Orvie Dingwall to run for North Kildonan City Councillor

NORTH KILDONAN – Tomorrow, Orvie Dingwall will announce that she is entering the race to replace Jeff Browaty as the City Councillor for North Kildonan. 

It is time for change in North Kildonan after twenty years of paying more for declining services - crumbling infrastructure, inaccessible bus routes, longer waits for ambulances, rising water rates, and being called derogatory names by Councillor Browaty.

Instead of prioritizing the everyday services that North Kildonan residents depend on, Councillor Browaty has championed a new roadway through the heart of Kilcona Park that no one asked for. 

“Now is the time for a fresh, new, voice from someone who recognizes that Winnipeg’s neighbourhoods can be: great for families of all ages; healthy, thriving, and safe communities; financially and environmentally sustainable; and focussed on revitalizing aging infrastructures. Supported by input from residents of North Kildonan, I intend to bring these priorities to City Hall” says Dingwall.

As a long-time resident of North Kildonan and a prominent Manitoba labour leader, Orvie is connected to the community and brings years of leadership experience and optimism. She has served her community directly as part of the East Kildonan-Transcona Library Advisory Committee, and the boards of KinderWorld and Small Scholars daycares. She has built relationships across the city and the province through her extensive work with Manitoban unions, including a multi-year tenure as President of the University of Manitoba Faculty Association (UMFA) and a Vice-President of the Manitoba Federation of Labour. 

“I want to join City Council so I can bring a fresh new perspective to North Kildonan. Residents deserve a councillor who listens, stands up for the community, and protects the public spaces that make our neighbourhood such a great place to live.”

Friends and supporters will join Orvie at City Hall at 12:00 to celebrate her candidacy and provide press availability.
