North Kildonan is where I’ve called home for 16-years and is where my husband and I are raising our two children and two dogs.
I was born and raised in Dryden, Ontario, on Treaty 3 Territory, and during visits to “the big city” fell in love with Winnipeg’s arts, culture, sporting, and recreation. I completed my Bachelor of Arts and Master of Library and Information Science degrees at the University of Western Ontario, in London, Ontario, before moving to Edmonton, Alberta to work at the Canadian Patient Safety Institute. In 2010, my family and I were thrilled to move to Winnipeg when I accepted a health sciences librarian position at the University of Manitoba’s Bannatyne Campus. North Kildonan has been our home ever since!
I have spent my adult life helping regular people have their voices heard to enact the changes they need and want. For over a decade I have been heavily involved in the labour movement, listening to worker concerns and helping to translate their ideas into actions that significantly improve their working conditions. I served as President of the University of Manitoba Faculty Association (UMFA) from 2021-2024, as a Vice-President of the Manitoba Federation of Labour (2022-2024), as a delegate on the Winnipeg Labour Council, and as a Director of the Canadian Association of University Teachers Defence Fund. I am currently a Board member on the Workers Compensation Board. With all my experience working for workers, I am now the Labour endorsed City Council candidate in North Kildonan.
Closer to home, I am actively involved in North Kildonan, serving on the boards of my children’s daycares and school band parent associations, and was a member of the East Kildonan-Transcona Library Advisory Committee. I play alto saxophone and auxiliary percussion in the Northwinds Community Band, swim with Aquatica Synchro Club, and am a national-level artistic swimming judge.
As a health sciences librarian I am committed to evidence-based decision making, and aiding health professionals in their efforts to provide evidence-based health care and health policy throughout Manitoba. I love riding my bike to/from work along the Northeast Pioneers Greenway and am grateful for the improvements that have been made throughout Winnipeg over the last 16 years to the cycling and active-transport network.
These experiences have prepared me for the role of City Councillor, where my job will be to work for you! Coming together as neighbours to talk about the priorities for our neighbourhood, and our dreams and aspirations for how great Winnipeg can be, is the important first step for changing our community for the better.
I am excited to hear from you about what your priorities are for North Kildonan, now, and for generations to come.
